Can I retract or cancel my bid?

Inappropriate or excessive bid retraction harms the marketplace. It is unfair to buyers who are placing legitimate bids, and it can harm sellers by driving away legitimate bidders. Bid retraction undermines trust in the marketplace. Please bid responsibly.

That being said, there are a few circumstances under which bid retractions may be allowed. If you want to retract a bid, you must contact AEAuction using the Contact Us option on the toolbar. There is no automatic way to retract a bid. Misuse of bid retractions to manipulate the bidding process is not permitted. This includes any manipulation of the bidding process to discover the maximum bid of the current high bidder.

In any case, time is the most important factor. If you do not contact us immediately, you may not be able to retract your bid at all. When you contact us, you need to include the name of the buyer, the name of the seller, and the name of the item, as well as the reason you want to retract your bid.

You may be able to retract your bid if:
  • You obviously bid the wrong amount. For instance, you meant to bid 2,000,000 gp, and instead bid 20,000,000 even though the previous high bid was only 1,500,000 gp. In this case, you must include the corrected amount that you intended to bid.

  • You and the seller both agree to allow the retraction. In this case, you and the seller must both contact us to do the bid retraction.

Bid retractions are never allowed if:
  • You changed your mind about an item, or already obtained one elsewhere.

  • The same item has been offered by another seller for a lower price.

Each retraction request is considered on a case by case basis. If we believe that the retraction will have a detrimental effect on the marketplace, it may be rejected for any reason.
How did I get outbid so fast?

AEAuction uses a proxy bidding system to simplify the bidding process. When you place a bid, you should always bid the maximum amount you would be willing to pay for the item. AEAuction will then place a bid on the item for you for the minimum amount necessary to give you the highest bid. If another user comes along and bids more than this for the item, AEAuction will automatically increase your bid, up to the maximum bid that you specified, until you have the winning bid. If another user bids more than the maximum bid that you specified, you will receive a notification by email if you selected that option, and will be able to increase your maximum bid to give yourself the highest current bid.
My auction doesn't link to the items stats or links to the wrong item, what should I do?

AEAuction automatically links your auction to the matching item in the database, so a prospective buyer can quickly and easily view that stats and requirements of the item you are selling with a single click. The linking is done by the name of the item.

If your item does not link to its database stats, it is for one of two reasons. The first and most common is that the spellings do not match. For instance, if you list an item as "Heavymail", there is no way for AEAuction to know that this is the same as the item "Heavy Mail". This matching is not case sensitive however, so "Heavy Mail" is the same as "heavy mail" as far as the system is concerned. There are a few exceptions to this rule however. You can include information before and after the name, as long as the name itself matches. For instance AEAuction will successfully match "New Heavy Mail 500/500" to the appropriate item named "Heavy Mail".

The second issue that can cause a failure to link to the stats, is that the stats simply aren't in the database. You can check this by going into the Item Database through the left hand link (Item DB) and checking to see if the item is listed. If not, you can simply send me a screenshot of the items stats and I will add it as soon as possible.
I'm having trouble receiving email from AEAuction.

Because AEAuction is hosted using a dynamic IP service, many email services will pick up emails from AEAuction as possible spam, and drop them into your bulk email folder, or delete them entirely. If you are using a service such as yahoo that puts them in your bulk email folder, you can simply select one of these misdelivered messages and click the "Not Spam" button offered. This will usually correct the problem.

Other more aggresive services that delete messages that they think might be spam usually require a bit different approach. For most services, simply adding the addresses to your address book is enough. For others, you may have to actually make adjustments to your spam filters, which is beyond the scope of this FAQ. You should contact your email provider for instructions on how to do this. The internal email addresses that AEAuction uses are:
  • auctioneer@aeauction.com - most communications including auction results and outbid notices.
  • newaccounts@aeauction.com - used to send the initial confirmation email.
  • accounts@aeauction.com - used to send forgotten login information.
I didn't get my validation email.

This is generally caused by over-ambitious spam filters. If you don't receive your validation email within 10 minutes, you probably won't. The first thing to do is to check your bulk mail folders to see if it got misdirected there. If you still cannot find it, you can try resending it. If it is a problem with your spam filters, you will need to adjust them before resending, or that message will most likely be lost as well. In most cases, simply adding newaccounts@aeauction.com and auctioneer@aeauction.com to your address book will automatically allow messages from those addresses through. If you need additional help adjusting your spam filters, please contact your email provider for assistance.
I made a mistake on an auction, how do I delete it?

As long as there are no bids on your auction, you can still delete it. Simply log in to your account and open up the auction listing either from your My Account page, or by clicking on it in the regular listings page. At the bottom of the listing is a button marked Delete. Simply click on it and your auction will be removed. Note that the Delete button will not be available once someone has placed a bid on the item.
How do I create a store listing?

Store listings are a unique type of listing that uses a set purchase price rather than auction style bidding. A store listing will last for up to 1-year without having to be relisted.

In order to create a store listing, you must first have permission to use the store listing feature. Generally this permission is only granted to people who have donated $5.00 or more to keeping AEAuction.com up and running. Once you are granted permission to create store listings, the "Store Listing" option will appear under the auction length dropdown whenever you create a new listing. If you have contributed to AEAuction.com, and do not see the store listing option, you will need to contact me to have the feature enabled. Please be sure to include the email address that was used to send the money via paypal so that I can verify the contribution.
What do the stars next to a players name mean?

Power Seller Power Seller
This players has completed at least 100 auctions, and has maintained a feedback score of 95% or higher.

Ultra Power Seller Ultra Power Seller
This player has completed at least 1000 auctions, and has maintained a feedback score of 95% or higher.
How does the blacklist work?

The blacklist allows you to prevent individual users from placing bids on your auctions. This may be because you have had problems with them paying in the past, you or your guild have a tradeban against them, or for any other reason that you do not want to deal with this person. You can add someone to your blacklist using any of the following methods:
  • Going to your My Account page and selecting the Edit My Blacklist option.
  • By checking the box next to Add this user to my blacklist when leaving feedback.
  • By clicking the Add this user to my blacklist option when viewing the users profile.
You may remove users from your blacklist by visiting your My Account page and selecting the Edit My Blacklist option.
What are the DPS and SF listed in the item stat tables?

DPS stands for damage per second, and is a relative measure of the amount of damage a given weapon will do. For instance a weapon with a DPS of 25.00 will not actually do 25 damage each second because of numerous factors that contribut to the damage multiplier, including your skill level, strength, dexterity, resistance of mobs, etc. However, a weapon with a DPS of 25.00 will do MORE damage than a weapon of the same type, with the same damage type, and a DPS of only 24.00. Thus, the DPS is useful for comparing the amount of damage done my two weapons. Note when choosing a weapon however that you need to take those other factors into account with the DPS when selecting which is right for a particular job.

SF, or Stamina Factor, like DPS is a relative comparison between weapons. This number however measures the relative amount of stamina a weapon will consume. If you find that a particular weapon runs your stamina down to fast, you can search the list for a weapon with a lower SF to help reduce the problem.

What is Anti-Sniper?

Anti-Sniper is a feature that allows you to prevent bidders from sniping an auction. Sniping is when a bidder places their bid at the last minute in the hopes that noone will have time to outbid them before the auction ends. Anti-Sniper prevents this by automatically extending an auction to end 6 hours after the final bid was places each time a bid is placed near the end of the auction. Be aware that because this can happen multiple times, it is possible (though unlikely) that an auction can end up being extended by a significant amount.
What are Bidding Restrictions?

Bidding restrictions allow you to easily decide who can and cannot bid on your auctions. Bidding restrictions have two levels:

Level 1: New Users, and users with a feedback rating of 80 or higher can bid on the auction.
Level 2: Only users with a feedback rating of 90 or higher can bid on this auction, this also EXCLUDES new users that have not yet received any feedback.
Can I include conditions on my auctions?

Reasonable conditions on auctions are permissible, however, you may NOT include any conditions with the intent of circumventing the Terms of Service.

Example of allowed conditions:
  • Item must be collected within 10 days.
  • Item must be picked up in LSP.

Example of conditions that are NOT allowed:
  • I reserve the right to end bidding at any time.
  • I reserve the right not to sell item if ending bid is not high enough.

Any auctions found with forbidden conditions on them may be deleted without notice.
Someone unfairly left me negative feedback, what can I do?

If you have been left negative feedback, you can contact AEAuction using the Contact form to request that it be reversed.

Feedback reversals are handled on a case by case basis, but some reasons where feedback will usually be reversed if requested are:
  • The person leaving non-positive feedback did not give a reason.
  • Non-positive feedback was left without allowing a reasonable amount of time for contact (I use 5 days as a good rule of thumb).
  • You want to withdraw non-positive feedback that you have left for someone else.

When contacting AEAuction regarding a feedback reversal, please be sure to include the other parties username, and item number that the non-positive feedback was left on, as well as the reason you believe it should be reversed.
How does feedback work?

After buying or selling an item, a user can leave feedback for the other party, to let others know how reliable this person is. Feedback scores, shown in a users profile, range from 0 to 100, and are based soley on the feedback left for that user by buyers and sellers.

In addition, there are some restrictions placed on users that have accumulated excessively low feedback scores:
  • Feedback Below 70: User may only have 2 winning bids on items, and may only list 2 items for sale at a time.
  • Feedback Below 50: User may only have 1 winning bid on items, and may only list 1 item for sale at a time.
  • Feedback Below 25: User may only have 1 winning bid on items, and may not create auction listings at all.
These restrictions are in place to improve the quality and reliability of auctions on AEAuction. The only way to remove these restrictions is to honor your auction results and improve your feedback score. If your feedback score is low due to negative feedback left for you unfairly, please see Someone unfairly left me negative feedback, what can I do?

Note: for purposes of calculating your current number of winning bids, and items for sale, an auction is considered complete 10 days after it ends, or when the other part leaves you feedback, whichever comes FIRST.
What format should I use for image uploads?

If you are uploading monster or item stats, the format is not important, as long as it is readable. You can even crop these images to a smaller size to reduce upload time if you want to, though that is certainly not necessary.

If you are uploading images of items or monsters, there are two criteria for the images. They must be in the original .bmp format to preserve the image quality, though they can be cropped if desired. Item images must be contained in the 33 by 35 pixel border like the one on the paperdoll window. The easiest way to get good images is to equip the items and simply take a screenshot of your paperdoll to upload. The other option is to position the items in the bottom "sale" row of a shop window, as they use the same size borders.
Can two different people access their accounts from the same location or computer?

Per the Terms of Service for AEAuction (You did actually READ the terms of service when you created your account, right?), it IS allowed for more than one person to access an account from the same computer or location. However, by default, IP sharing is turned off on all new accounts. This means if you create an account from the same IP address as someone you will be sharing with, it will be automatically locked out with the reason "IP Sharing Violation". You will need to contact me with a list of all accounts that will be sharing a single IP address. This means if you will be using your account at a friends house, you will need to send a message to me before hand with your account name, and their account name so that IP sharing can be enabled on both accounts. Failure to do so may result in one or both of your accounts being blocked until I do hear from you.

Also note, you MAY NOT, for ANY reason, bid on items listed by someone that you share an IP address with. This helps to prevent intentional and unintentional bid pushing and fraud. If you are caught doing this, BOTH accounts involved may be permanently banned or temporarily suspended.
How can I create a listing for tokens only?

You can't. Gold pieces are the accepted currency of Ashen Empires. All auction listings and bids shall be made in gold pieces. If a seller wants to provide alternate means of payment, such as tokens, they may specify so in the auction listing, however, they must still accept payment in gold as well.
